I've purchased several IKAPE products recently, including their bottomless portafilter, convex espresso baskets, magnetic dosing funnel, adjustable portafilter holder, UniPress distributor/tamper, and milk pitcher. Overall, I've been very impressed with the quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. However, a few products deserve some additional feedback.
Let's start with the espresso baskets. I purchased both the 18g and 20g versions, and these definitely required some patience to dial in. They're quite different from traditional espresso baskets, and my usual grind settings simply weren't working. After experimenting, I discovered that I needed to grind considerably coarser than I was accustomed to with my other baskets. Once I figured that out, everything came together beautifully! Both baskets now perform very well. My advice to anyone purchasing these is to be prepared to rethink your usual dialing-in process. There's a learning curve, but the results are worth it.
The UniPress distributor and tamper combo, unfortunately, has been my least favorite purchase. I really wanted to love this tool because I appreciate the concept of combining two functions into one. However, in my experience, it doesn't seem to compress the coffee grounds as effectively as my traditional distributor and tamper setup. I find myself preferring my previous tools for a more consistent and confident tamp. It's a clever design, but I feel there's room for improvement in its performance.
The bottomless portafilter is fantastic! It has a beautiful weight, feels incredibly solid, and operates smoothly. I especially love the flat-bottom design, which allows it to sit perfectly on my espresso scale. It's one of those small design details that makes a real difference in your daily workflow.
The adjustable portafilter holder is another standout. It's sturdy, practical, and makes preparing my espresso much more convenient. The magnetic dosing funnel fits and performs exactly as expected, and the milk pitcher has also been an excellent addition to my setup. All three are well-designed tools that I genuinely enjoy using.
Speaking of milk pitchers, I'm anxiously awaiting IKAPE's new milk pitcher with the built-in temperature gauge! As someone who enjoys perfecting milk texture and temperature for latte art, this is one product I'm particularly excited about. Having temperature feedback built directly into the pitcher sounds like a fantastic addition to the steaming process. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one and seeing how it performs!
My overall impression: IKAPE clearly puts thought into its products, and I appreciate the innovation they're bringing to the home barista experience. Not every product has been a perfect match for my preferences, but the overall quality is impressive.
As someone who enjoys experimenting with espresso equipment and continually refining my technique, I appreciate companies willing to approach traditional tools differently. Innovation sometimes comes with a learning curve, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
I'll continue using and enjoying my IKAPE equipment, and I look forward to seeing how the company continues to improve its designs.
**Great work, IKAPE! Keep innovating, keep listening to your customers, and keep raising the bar for us home espresso enthusiasts!** ☕
I recommend it.
