First to Pioneer Screw-driven Transmission for Extracting Espresso, Saving More Effort

The IKAPE Alkaid manual coffee maker is the world's first espresso machine to utilize a screw-driven mechanism for extraction. Compared to all lever-style manual coffee makers on the market, the IKAPE Alkaid's screw-driven transmission ratio amplifies the downward pressure generated manually and transfers it to the extraction pressure. This means that with minimal downward force applied, the screw mechanism achieves the optimal extraction pressure of 9 bar. This capability is unattainable with lever-style manual coffee machines.

Manual Cranking Generates Extraction Pressure, Making 0peration Easier and More Stable.

The IKAPE manual coffee machine employs a hand-crank mechanism to drive the lead screw transmission. Through gear ratio amplification during operation, extraction pressure is effectively amplified. This entire process achieves a perfect synergy—simply turn the handle slowly to maintain stable extraction pressure. This method allows for the elegant preparation of a single shot of espresso.

At first, you may not be able to control the hand pump speed very skillfully. When pumping, you must observe the pressure gauge to adjust the pumping speed accordingly. After repeated practice, you will become highly proficient at managing the relationship between pumping speed and pressure changes.

Commercial-grade E61 Espresso Machine Brewing Head, High Extraction Rate

The IKAPE coffee team prioritized practicality by adopting the most mature E61 brew head available on the market, compatible with all E61 handles and 58mm coffee accessories. Moreover, the 58mm E61 group head delivers exceptionally high extraction efficiency, maximizing the expression of coffee beans' full flavor profile. Due to ongoing challenges in implementing electronic heating control, IKAPE coffee machines currently rely on preheating the group head by adding hot water in advance.

Visual Pressure Gauge for Real-time Extraction Pressure Monitoring

This IKAPE manual coffee press features a visual pressure gauge that displays extraction pressure in real time. Adjust the cranking speed based on pressure readings to control extraction pressure. Typically, cranking the handle six full turns will show noticeable pressure changes. Avoid cranking too fast—maintain an optimized, steady speed while monitoring the pressure gauge to regulate extraction pressure.

Piston Anti-bottom Design, Hand-operated Reverse Suction, No drop-off Cleaning Disc

The IKAPE coffee machine's brew head employs a piston mechanism. As the piston descends, it applies extraction pressure to the brew head. While continuously pumping the handle, the piston continues its downward motion. The IKAPE team has incorporated a bottom-detection mechanism: when a distinct rebound force is felt, it indicates the piston has reached the brew head's lowest point. At this stage, reverse the handle's motion (counterclockwise) to retract the piston.

Typically, hot water remains in the brew head after extraction. By rotating counterclockwise, this residual water is sucked up and prevented from dripping. You can then safely remove the portafilter and place a milk pitcher beneath the brew head. Finally, pull out the plunger to release the suction, allowing the remaining water to drip into the milk pitcher and keep the area below clean.

FAQs

Which size coffee tamper/coffee distributor should I choose?

The correct tamper/distributor should be selected according to the model of the coffee machine's portafilter. There are three main types of coffee machine portafilters on the market today, the first is the 51mm portafilter, the representative brand is Delonghi, Delonghi all models of coffee machines are using the The first is 51mm portafilter, the representative brand is Delonghi, all models of Delonghi coffee makers are using 51mm portafilter, if you don't need such precise tamper/distributor, you can also choose 49/49.5mm tamper.
The second type of coffee machine is the 54mm portafilter, the representative brand is Breville/Sage, its 5 series, 6 series, 7 series and 8 series models all use 54mm portafilter, actually the size of the portafilter basket is 53.7mm, so the IKAPE tamper is 53.3mm, so the IKAPE tamper is 53.3mm, so the IKAPE tamper is 53.3mm. mm for precise matching. It is worth noting that breville/sage's 9 series machines (920,980,990) use a 58mm portafilter, so you need to choose our 58.5mm tamper.
The third type of coffee maker is the one that uses 58mm portafilter, of which there are different portafilters such as E61 model, 3-ear portafilter, slanted 2-ear, etc. However, the actual size of their baskets is basically 58.7mm, so you can choose IKAPE 58.35mm/58.5mm tamper.
Besides that there are some niche coffee makers that use 45.5/49.0/53.0mm portafilter, just choose the size according to the original coffee maker.
You can also let us know your coffee maker model number via email (info@ikapestore.com) and we will reply you with the right choice.

How to choose the right model of IKAPE's bottomless portafilter

IKAPE currently has two types of bottomless portafilter, one is regular and the other is openwork bottomless portafilter.
Regular bottomless portafilter, there is a difference in the handle material or color, the regular wood model is made of red acid branch handle. The color series is available (pearl white, rainbow, white shadow). The correct portafilter model should be chosen according to the model of the coffee maker, as follows
1, Delonghi coffee machine, IKAPE has three models of portafilter, ① 51 2-ear portafilter, applicable to all Delonghi 2-ear coffee machines, such as EC0310, EC3420, EC0520, etc.; ② Delonghi regular 3-ear portafilter, applicable to all regular 3-ear coffee machines, such as EC0680, but not the regular 3-ear portafilter. For example, EC0680, but not applicable to La Specialista series; ③ La Specialista series portafilter, applicable to models 9155, 9335, 9655, etc.
2、Different from DeLonghi 51mm portafilter---Dongling 51mm portafilter, if your coffee machine is using 51mm portafilter, but not DeLonghi brand, please choose Dongling 51mm portafilter.
3. 54mm breville/sage coffee maker, except breville/sage 58mm portafilter (9 series, such as 920,980,990.). All use 54mm breville portafilter.

What does a coffee tamper do?

A coffee tamper is an essential tool for crafting espresso, primarily used to compact coffee grounds into a uniform puck for optimal extraction. Its core functions can be summarized in three key aspects:

  1. Adjusting Density: After dosing ground coffee into the portafilter, untamped grounds contain air pockets. The tamper applies vertical pressure (typically 30lbs/13.6kg) to eliminate voids, creating consistent density. This directly determines water flow rate - insufficient density causes fast channeling (under-extracted sourness), while excessive compression leads to choked flow (over-extracted bitterness).
  2. Preventing Channeling: Uneven tamping creates low-resistance paths for water, causing localized over/under-extraction. Professional baristas often use self-leveling tampers with built-in pressure calibration and micro-articulation bases to achieve sub-millimeter flatness. Premium models feature ergonomic weight distribution (400-600g) and tapered edges matching exact portafilter dimensions (e.g., 58mm), eliminating edge gaps.

Why does the coffee tamper use a threaded shape for the bottom surface?

The threaded shape of the bottom can leave a threaded shape on the coffee powder, which is conducive to the extraction, the same time, the coffee powder has a larger contact area with the running water, so that the extraction occurs, you can retain a better coffee flavor
