I'm usually using IMS Competition basket on like medium to darker roasts (for my Latte Art) and I kinda struggled whenever I have a light roasted coffee - takes a long time to dial in - but while playing around with the IKAPE conical basket, I noticed that it's natural flow restriction makes dialing in light roast much easier. Like on the second try I get a good flow and balanced cup. When you have expensive coffees and only like 100g of it, you really don't want to waste too much on dialing in. I have no idea how much of the beans potential the basket can extract - but even if it's below what the cylindical basket potentially can do - if I get a shot that is balanced in 2 tries, that's a hard win for me! - very much recommended to have withing your basket roster.
KAPO K2 is a fantastic tool for people on the go. The fact it boils its own water is mind-blowing. I enjoy the taste of espresso I get out of it.
That being said, it has its shortcomings, for which I'm removing 1 star. Firstly, the provided stock basket doesn't have perfectly straight walls, they sort of cone inwards. With lower doses, my tamper gets stuck every time, and that's very annoying. Secondly, the programmable options are fantastic, but it pains me to see the unused potential of profiling your shots even more precisely, with specific steps being able to be set, more control over each variable during the extraction (I'd like to set preinfusion flow rate separately from the actual extraction) and so on.
All in all, it's a fantastic tool for what it is and what it offers. There's no debate it has earned its place on my counter, everywhere I go. I'm just looking forward to advanced water pump controls and software updates which would allow precise, real-time tweaks of the water flow and steps to be set and followed. The stock basket is alright, but it could've been a tad better.
